BEAR BROOK PARK

I do not know the exact location of this park. I knew the Bear Brook stream ran between Westville and Stellarton, so it was a bit of a surprise to see four of the following postcards identified as being in New Glasgow, and two in Stellarton. It appears to have been a relatively new park at the time these postcards were published.

This postcard has a story! Last fall I found this postcard listed on an auction website in New Zealand, but was not allowed to register or bid because I live in Canada. I have never seen this postcard any other place, so in desperation I posted a plea for help on the Postcard Traders Association forum. A member knew someone in New Zealand who would likely be willing to help out, and ultimately I received the postcard from a gentleman by the name of Kevin Hannah, who obtained the card on my behalf. There are some awesome people around still, and he is one of them!

This card was mailed to Mrs. J. W. MacClelland, 23 Coburg Road, Halifax, NS, and the message says that the sender "Recieved the doilies safely today. Very many thanks for all your trouble. It is lovely here. Perfect weather. E. A. B."

This beautiful card is one of my favourites, with a close up of a father with two young children, on a spring outing. The colours are warm and bright and the photograph is clear enough that you can easily see the faces of the two children.

Addressed to Allen P. Levering, 1015 Spruce Street, Camden, N.J. and signed NDC. The image on this card is unusually clear, and it appears that people are arriving for some sort of event in the tent.

Another beautiful view of the park in it's early days with exceptionally nice print quality. The shrubs and trees appear to be quite young and everything is neatly manicured.

This postcard was mailed to Mrs. Bertha Wright, Union Beach, St. John, NB. The sender was L. Layton, who wrote "My dear Bertha, Hope you have got as much snow as we have. What a terrific storm yesterday. I think there is about 4 ft of snow here. We are all well only I hae the toothache both in my teeth and in my knees. Hope you are all getting along alright. Best Wishes for the New Year with love to all."

Another beautifully printed card with a back identical to PC 00085 above. This card is addressed to Miss Tena Langille, West River Station, Pictou County, N.S.

Miss Langille was at that point in time, engaged to be married as evidenced by the following message:
"Hello Central, How are the flies up there now. Don't suppose you mind them when the man on the road stopt off. Hope your mother got back ok. Has mamie been with you over Sunday. Heard you were to the picnic yesterday. All is OK down here. Don't forget to send me an invitation to your wedding hon. Ta Sandy Gunn"
